The Novels That I Read

Thanks to a friend of mine- Abhinay Kharote I started reading novels which very fast became one of my favorite hobby.

First Novel

My first novel was ‘If Tomorrow Comes’ by Sidney Sheldon. This was a good story and if someone asks me I would recommend it.

My Rating – 3.0/5.0

Second Novel

This book didn’t seem as good as the first one. But the way Sidney write his books is just fantastic. So still gets a one time read rating from me.

Third Novel

Just mind blowing. The story-telling of Dan Brown is very different than many others. Found the reason why this book was a #1 bestseller.

Fourth Novel

This time I opted for a book with an Indian author. And I found this one very much interesting. Chetan has a very distinct way of telling the story. The characters in his story were easier to connect than other authors. Definitely I have become a fan of his.

Fifth Novel

After reading this novel I became a fan of Dan Brown. Dan Brown writes amazingly intricate and complex storyline that keeps you lost and confused, in a good way, in your armchair as you progress through the plot in his books. Deception Point is definitely one of the best books that i have read.

Sixth Novel

Chetan Bhagat with his first novel comes with a story that will connect to any college going student easily. He certainly knows how to make an interesting book with a topic very common for the masses.

Seventh Novel

Ken Follet had really caught my imagination with his hollywood type of storytelling. Dealing about global amnesia he really kept the reader guessing, what really happened before the incident resulting in the present state of the lead character, until the climax is just few pages away. Really engrossing story.

Eighth Novel

‘ ‘Ashok Banker’ just bring the life of Mumbai in the 1980s live in this book with his brilliant description. Along with this he tells you the story of a young executive trying to make his mark in this world while dealing with his personal problems. Quite different than the books that I have already read. The subject of this novel was not one of those that I’ll like but still somehow the book impressed me.

Ninth Novel

Another great novel from Dan Brown. Though sometimes the book appears a little boring due to the numerous terms and definitions that the author introduces, butthe plot involves the reader and makes it exciting with just sheer brilliance.

Tenth Novel

Well my friend Angad Sodhi recommended this novel to me nearly a year ago but I struggled to get my hands on it. In the end I found it, read it and now I don’t have words to describe this novel. In this one Paulo Coelho deals with the treasures of life, the small but important things of life that we neglect and the greatest lie of the world that we accept. It has a very different subject than other novels have but that doesn’t stop it from catching your imagination.

Eleventh Novel

As I mentioned I read Angels And Demons and as usual is the case with Dan Brown’s novels I was spellbound with it. Just I thought its end is a bit too long. But still a must read one

Twelfth Novel

Its been a long time since I started to read this book, ‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari’ by ‘Robin Sharma’. With other books I felt the desire to continue reading and falling into the world that the author has created. Maybe because in other books I couldn’t guess what will happen next while in this book there was no such suspense as the monk Julian Mantle and his best friend John has been engaged in a talk that could change his life. Nonetheless the talk is important one and I think everyone should read this book as I can see myself in the role of John more than once. And I am sure many people would find so.

Thirteenth Novel

‘A Study in Scarlet’ is a novel by ‘Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’about Sherlock Holmes. This novel is divide into two parts. The first part deals with two murders and its trail by Sherlock Holmes while the second part tells us why the crime has taken place and how Sherlock Holmes crackled the mystery. While reading the first part I was a little bored because neither I nor any character in the novel except Sherlock Holmes could guess who the culprit was and I wasn’t getting how Sherlock Holmes was cracking the mystery as the author had not put enough light upon that thing. But in the second part the author captured my imagination by his excellent description of the chain of events and the way he showed Sherlock Holmes above everyone else in his chosen field of academics.

Fourteenth Novel

‘2 states’ like other Chetan Bhagat’s novels has a great narration. He gives tragedy a little funny look and thats what kept me glued to the this book till the end. His depiction of Punjabi family and ‘Tamilian Brahmin’ family is great. The manner in which he shifts the mood in this book was more amazing for me than his previous books that I have read. Simply one of the must read books.

Fifteenth Novel

The Lost Symbol brings the now famous Robert Langdon to the Capitol building and this time he has to deal with the Mason’s Pyramid, which he believed was a myth. Dan Brown again creates the world of mystery that Robert Langdon has to solve. The book is as involving as his earlier novels.
My Rating – 4.0/5.0

Sixteenth Novel

Putting forward a case of a poor villager with a dream of becoming a successful rich man, Arvind Adiga puts the reader in a journey from ‘darkness’ to ‘light’. Well thats what he call the poor India and rich India but rightly so. The difference between the two section of societies is great an that difference is itched out in every Indian’s mind and Adiga has done a brilliant job in presenting it. Its one of the must reads.

Seveteenth Novel

Chetan Bhagat explores the world of politics, powerful peoples of the Indian society through two friends – one who was poor and aiming to be a big successful person,  notwithstanding the path he chooses is good or bad; while the other hailing from middle class family trying to bring a revolution in the society so that the country will have a good future. How their lives enfolds while both falling for the same girl and a one sided competition starts between the two. Chetan Bhagat once again turns to a serious issue and he kept me interested me in the story till the end. He has portrayed the Indian society exactly like a mirror.
My rating – 3.5/5.0

Eighteenth Novel

If you are really looking for some inspirational books but you get bored after reading any halfway through then Paulo Coelho’s books are for you. His stories has lots of inspirations. A nice story which lets you in the world of mads and gives a reason for you to be a little mad. 🙂

Nineteenth Novel

Paulo Coelho goes on to explore the world of true  love, passion and sex through a life of a prostitute. The book was kind of uninteresting at the start due to its different topic, but Paulo still manages to grip my attention as the story moves on and leaves me impressed as always.

Twentieth Novel

Indians does have very much liking to their mythological Gods and their stories. But has anyone thought about if these mythological Gods actually graced this blessed land and that too not as Gods but as normal human beings. Amish does it. So that is the basis of his Shiva trilogy which features Indian God Shiva as a normal human being, but his deeds making him as a living God/legend for his followers. The Immortals of Meluha is the first book in the series and Amish takes us in 1900 BC when India was a very rich nation divided in three main rules the efficient Meluha, the free Swadeepans and the supposedly evil Nagas. Amish’s storytelling is quite gripping and his portraying of these mythological characters fantastic. Definitely he ranks as one of the best Indian author.

Twenty First Novel

Amish’s first novel created an interest to reach out for his another novel – The Secret of the Nagas which is the sequel of his first book. Amish doesn’t disappoint with this one either the story develops at a good pace and its amazing to revisit one of our Gods as a mortal but growing to be a larger than life legend. His portrayal of 1900 BC India is also a good and refreshing one.

Twenty Second Novel

I was waiting for this one as it was the concluding part of Amish’s Shiva’s Trilogy. And the previous two books kind of had raised the expectations from ‘Oath of Vayuputras’. But it kind of disappointed me. As a concluding part of the trilogy, explanations were expected but in some parts there seems to be over explanations that slows down the pace of the story. Also the book, at over 500 pages, seems big and story long. I don’t mind 500 pages story but with slow pace, the book seems less intriguing. Still the book has its moment like the final war of Sati.

Twenty Third Novel

I try to get my hands on Paulo Coelho’s novels whenever I can. I always like his novels and this time I came across his ‘Aleph’. In this book, Paulo Coelho takes us along his own journey to regain his ‘spiritual fire’. He has written this book in the first person. As always he amazes me with the way he weaves his story making reader consider the meaning of one’s own personal journeys.
My Rating – 4.0/5.0

Twenty Fourth Novel

Despite my disappointment with the concluding novel of Shiva trilogy I cannot stop myself from preordering ‘Scion of Ikshvaku’, the first in Amish’s Ramchandra series. And how glad I am that I got it. The book revisits Ramayana the way it revisited Shiva. It shows us the life of a Ram who was not so loved at start but who wins the trust and love of his people with his ideal behaviour.
The story is fast paced and intriguing. My issues with Oath of Vayuputras seemed all addressed by Amish here.
