The Avengers Review

Cast : Robert Downey Jr.,Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsforth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson

Its been a while I seen movies and yesterday was a rare day when I took some time and watch a movie. And that too in a THEATER!!!! 😛

Jokes apart. Returning to the movie,

So what do you expect of a superhero movie? Of the previous superhero movies I expected this to be an emotional action packed movie. But fortunately, for a change, Avengers was a total entertaining movie. You get action from starting moment and its intensity goes on increasing with each passing moment. You get emotional side as well but it is in just the right amount (not like Spiderman 3 where I thought it was a little more than actually needed.). There are also witty one liners from Roert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark). So to sum it up all The Avengers surpasses all your expectations.

The Avengers has the biggest build up to it (if I am not wrong) with all the Iron Man movies, Captain America, The Incredibel Hulk and Thor movies. While all those movies were excellent (though I haven’t watched Thor movie 🙂 ) The Avengers in my opinion surpasses all of them in its entertaining content.

The plot of this movie is just plain simple. There is one ‘Loki’ (brother of Thor) who wants to rule the world with alien army. Sensing the threat that he possess, S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury assembles a team of superheroes to save the world. And as expected all supersheroes being from different backgrounds and bigger egos doesn’t agree on anything and bicker hilariously with scathing one-liners.

While Chris Evans is dead serious and methodical Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. is funny and irresistible, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow is damn sexy and smart. Chris Hemsworth as Thor is good, Jeremy Renner has got an interesting role as Hawkeye and plays it well. But Mark Ruffalo as Incredible Hulk steals the show by adding a different shade to the character. A reluctant hero but always ready to become angry. He along with Robert Downy Jr. just takes this film to another level.

While the heroes are great, Tom Hiddleston as the baddie Loki never gets overshadowed. He is quite a baddie with all those typical baddie dialogues and a good presence. One particular scene involving him and Incredible HULK just makes you laugh out loud.

The special effects of the movie are awesome which goes with most of the 3d action films these days. The larger than life action scenes of the second half are awesome and eye popping.

So overall the movie comes out with must watch tag. One of the most entertaining movie of the year.

My rating : 4.5/5.0

3 Idiots – Review

Cast – Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor, Omi Vaidya, Parikshit Sahni and Boman Irani.
Direction – Rajkumar Hirani

This film released on 25th of December and for me this one was most awaited film of 2009 but due to my exams I couldn’t watch it as my exams were going on. I still couldn’t go to  watch this movie even after my exams concluded as one of my friend hadn’t still finished with his exams. Guess a film on engineering and engineers themselves couldn’t watch this movie due to their exams. Nevermind! In the end I got the opportunity to watch it yesterday.

Moving on to the movie, well I think , though Chetan Bhagat had problem with the credits I am sure he wouldn’t have any problem with the way the story has been executed. Now I am not going to comment on the controversy that brewed between him and the producer.

The movie starts with Farhan (Madhavan) getting a phone call from his once classmate Chatur Ramalingam (Omi Vaidya) in the pretext of meeting his long lost friend Rancho, Ranchoddas Shamaldas Chanchad (Aamir Khan). So Farhan Qureshi forces an emergency landing of the plane he was travelling at that time, calls his another good friend Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi) and the film commences the journey of two friends to find the long lost friend. While travelling Farhan walks down the memory lane and let us peep into their college life, their days at the Imperial College of Engineering (ofcourse its fictitious) one of the top colleges of the country.

The story tells about free-spirited Rancho who denounces the education system as it puts pressure on the students and sometimes even forces them to take the dreaded step of suicide. He doesn’t want the rote learning mentallity to be adopted. Instead he proposes that student should understand what they are learning so that learning becomes fun and the students will enjoy it. he also proposes that you should follow your dreams rather than following others (in most cases parent’s) dream to be successful. But these thoughts of his were unacceptable to two people Chatur and his Viru Sahastrabuddhe or ViruS (Boman Irani), the principal of the college who interprets Rancho’s thoughts as criticism of his professors.

Well this has been the message of the story but while delivering the message the film never compromises the entertainment factor. And this makes the film more loving and adoring. And what can I say about the performances! Man everyone has chipped in here. Aamir Khan is brilliant as usual, Sharman Joshi and Madhavan does not remain behind in term of quality of performances. Kareena’s performance is as lovely as she is(Well I got to admit it this is the second film after Jab We Met where I like her performance). Boman Irani Repeats his dean performance of Munnabhai M.B.B.S. but you still won’t complain about it. Omi Vaidya is funny as well as best as Chatur Ramalingam. I bet he will leave you in splits with his Hindi and speech at an award function (which is already a rage among youngster) when Rancho changes some of the word with obscenities. Camerawork is great suiting the mood of the film and direction is remarkable. Rajkumar Hirani delivers another Munnabhai like film with a difference. Moreover it is the first film based on a novel which I liked as much as I liked the novel. The film incorporates some changes but never did it loses on the message that the novel had to convey.

Conclusion: Well this is a must watch movie for everyone for its message as well as the entertainment that it provides. If you missed this you should just watch it as soon as its possible……

Respect Your National Anthem

One of the best ads. A must watch for every Indian. Others too can watch and apply it to their nation and national anthem. So must watch for everyone.

How can you respect your nation when you don’t respect your national anthem

A thought to ponder over.

MJ’s Death and Reaction to it.

The whole internet yesterday was abuzz with the death of Michael Jackson. MJ, the king of pop died at the age of 50 and will be remembered for both his talent – of singing as well as dancing, and also for the controversies.

Since everyone was writing something about MJ or paying tribute to him except me, I thought everyone has been affected by his death except me. Even twitter is abuzz with him. Everyone is twitting about him(yeah I too twitted but just once and  its same that I have written above.).  Well for me, not the death but all this thing has brought an altogether different feeling as he was one of my favorite pop icon (though I liked only his songs in his initial years) with his thriller and black or white being my favourite from pop genre and still here was I doing nothing -neither writing any post about him nor talking about him with my friennds.

I haven’t been to twitter earlier and signed up for it just yesterday and found out what the netizens have been doing. As I said the twitter has been very much alive with the news of MJ’s death. My favourite tweet in these two days has been by Robin Sharma – While Michael Jackson was alive, the world mocked him. Now he’s dead, the world celebrates him’ How true!

Here my tribute to the late pop sensation MJ

Well I was undecided of what to post as a tribute to him. In the end just posted the song thriller. Here are the Lyrics

[1st Verse]
It’s Close To Midnight And Something Evil’s Lurking In The Dark
Under The Moonlight You See A Sight That Almost Stops Your Heart
You Try To Scream But Terror Takes The Sound Before You Make It
You Start To Freeze As Horror Looks You Right Between The Eyes,
You’re Paralyzed

[Chorus]
‘Cause This Is Thriller, Thriller Night
And No One’s Gonna Save You From The Beast About
Strike
You Know It’s Thriller, Thriller Night
You’re Fighting For Your Life Inside A Killer, Thriller
Tonight

[2nd Verse]
You Hear The Door Slam And Realize There’s Nowhere Left To Run
You Feel The Cold Hand And Wonder If You’ll Ever See The Sun
You Close Your Eyes And Hope That This Is Just
Imagination
But All The While You Hear The Creature Creepin’ Up
Behind
You’re Out Of Time

[Chorus]
‘Cause This Is Thriller, Thriller Night
There Ain’t No Second Chance Against The Thing With
Forty Eyes
You Know It’s Thriller, Thriller Night
You’re Fighting For Your Life Inside Of Killer, Thriller Tonight

[Bridge]
Night Creatures Call
And The Dead Start To Walk In Their Masquerade
There’s No Escapin’ The Jaws Of The Alien This Time
(They’re Open Wide)
This Is The End Of Your Life

[3rd Verse]
They’re Out To Get You, There’s Demons Closing In On Every Side
They Will Possess You Unless You Change The Number On Your Dial
Now Is The Time For You And I To Cuddle Close Together
All Thru The Night I’ll Save You From The Terror On The Screen,
I’ll Make You See

[Chorus]
That This Is Thriller, Thriller Night
‘Cause I Can Thrill You More Than Any Ghost Would Dare To Try
Girl, This Is Thriller, Thriller Night
So Let Me Hold You Tight And Share A Killer, Diller, Chiller
Thriller Here Tonight

I’m Back

It has been a long break from blogging due to my exams. At last my exams finished last week and now I am back to do what I enjoy. Blogging.

During these days a lot of things happened IPL got concluded, Indian government got formed and another t20 event the T20 world cup started. I wanted to write about all these things which now I am going to write about it now.

IPL – Indian Premier League

The IPL started with bang and it ended with a bang. Eventhough the IPL frenzy was less this time since it was organized outside India due to elections, it was hugely successful and even prompted Lalit Modi to recommend 2 IPLs one in India and other outside India. Frankly speaking I don’t think it a good idea because already it brings a lot of workload on the international players and when will you be able to put a slot for the second IPL. The time slot for the first IPL is itself so much sandwiched between the international schedules that the IPL committee has a very big task while scheduling o the IPL.

Coming to cricket, the second edition of the IPL showed that experience does matter even in T20 cricket with the likes of Hayden , Kumble, Gilchrist performing for their teams. The final was a fitting finale to the grand event. With Kumble shining, he provided the best chance for Bangalore Royal Challengers to win the tournament but Gilchrist captaining his side admirably. But the final also showed some bad things like Symonds sledging his opponents throughout the game and it was not in good taste of the game.

IPL 2

Well its not Indian Premier league but its Indian Political League with the Congress led UPA winning this league for the second time in succession. The UPA winning it on the youngsters formula with Rahul Gandhi leading from the front. Well like many I too think it was the tough decisions of  Rahul Gandhithat led to the success of UPA. Well now I hope that he took another tough decision in leading Congress single handedly in the assembly elections in Maharashtra. Their UPA partner in Maharashtra has lost the faith of people with the happenings in the state in last few weeks. The Padamsingh Patil case coming in open and also the controversy leading to the recent transfer of  the police incharge of Nashik city who was doing the needful to bring the law and order of the city back in place.

Well for the leadership at the centre, I just wish they bring the economic reforms more freely since now there will no pressure of the left parties and hope they will be able to avoid the terrorist attacks this time around. I expect better reforms this time under the Manmohan Singh government

T20 World Cup

Well with Australia gone in the first round and India bowing out of the competition yesterday the world cup has sprung surprise to many people at its half stage. Frankly speaking I never thought that Australia could make it to the second stage of the tournament as both the team in their group were far better T20 sides. Sri Lanka has a very good bowling attack. They have the variety in their attack that is very much neede in this format if you have to win matches even while defending small totals. In batting they have in form Dilshan opening wih Jayasurya who showed West indies that he can destroy any bowling attack on  his day. While talking about West Indies, I thought if Australia had any chance of making to the super 8 stage then it was against this team, as west indies has got players who are not much consistent but on their day can destroy any team as Gayle did to the Ausies and Bravo did it to the Indians. The real surprise came from their bowling which last time couldn’t defend above 200 score against South Africa. Their bowling is doing the trick as they won both thier matches on strength of their bowling.

For India, they would have won the world cup on the strength of their team as they had the most inform batsmen but they failed to correct their old weakness of unable to play the bouncers. Both West Indies and England exposed this chink in their armory and the team had to pay the price of it by bowing out of th tournament. With Dhoni’s instinct failing for the first time in his captaincy he has come under a lot of criticism back here in India as this is the first time under his captaincy that the team has failed to make it to the final of any tournament.

Real Galactico

This is happening for the second time for real (oh I too can bring the figure of speech in my posts 🙂 hahaha). Real Madrid has acquired Kaka and are closing on to Ronaldo and even Liverpool’s Alvero Arbeloa. With many predicting that with such a team they will be unstoppable in Champions league and the Spanish League. But I differ in my opinion as they had a Galactico team earlier too but failing to win as many cups as were expected of them. Secondly, I admire the way Barca played their football this season. If they manage to play the same way I am sure they still will be able to win. Not forgetting great coaches that the english clubs have. Expect Rafa Benitez and Sir Alex Ferguson to spring some surprises. For Christiano Ronaldo was brought to the centrestage by Man. Utd. when Real took away Beckham.

So I am expecting a great footballing season this coming year.

Updated: Many has said that with the Real Madrid taking a hit in the recession, they should not have gone for  Galcticos this season with such a huge spending. I have other thoughts on it. Though the club is hit with recession the best chance to get the club out of the credit crunch is by marketing the club intelligently and I think it would be done easily and more aggresively by having such great marketeable pplayers in its wings. It helps in expanding the fan base and hus more merchandising and hence more revenue.

The Racist Aussie

Well this one hurts. The Indian students have been attacked in Australia and though the Australian government has denied tha these attacks have been racist, the victim Indian students had claimed it as racist. The Australian government has promised to take neccesseary measures to stop these attacks. And even though these attacks have been reduced to remarkable extent (considering that in last few days very few report has come forward) I think measures should be take to bury the difference of opinion of the concerned Aussies and the visiting Indian students since it is reported that the attacking Aussies has been angry at the Indians because of their willingness to work at lower salaries and hence the Indians are preferred at the job. But the Indians in the Oz has also said that many employers don’t prefer them because of their nationality. Hope the Australian government give attention to both these sides of the story so that none of such situation occurs in future

See ya till my next post.
